Design
and environmental work is underway for High Speed 2 (HS2), a £33bn high speed
rail network designed to increase capacity on existing routes, particularly the
West Coast Main Line. The first phase of
the network will provide links between London and the West Midlands, and the
Channel Tunnel, shortening journey times and creating thousands of jobs.
