Sita UK has been appointed contractor for a £4.9m waste management site in Hendon, Sunderland. Rubbish from Wearside, South Tyneside and Gateshead will be transported to the compound where it will be sorted, with non-recyclable waste transferred to Teeside for electricity generation. Jobs could be created at the new facility. Turnover £279.4m, 3,380 employees.
