New shops create 100 new jobs at Yate Shopping Centre

More than 100 new jobs are being created at Yate Shopping Centre with the opening of Marks & Spencer Simply Food, Sports Direct and Costa Coffee over the next few months.  Work on the extension started in 2012 after pre-lets were agreed with the three retailers and up to 100 construction works are employed on site by contractors ISG Pearce. 

Funding secured by EcoLogicLiving means new jobs

Cumbrian renewable energy business EcoLogicLiving has secured a further £150,000 investment from The North West Fund.  The company currently has 22 staff and said it planned to recruit up to ten more people over the coming year and grow turnover from £1.8m to £4.5m by March 2014

New jobs at Solihull-based energy software developer Contigo

Solihull-based energy software developer Contigo has secured a £1m finance facility through Santander's Breakthrough programme to expand its team, enter new markets and accelerate business growth. 

Highfield Garden Centre expansion means new jobs

Highfield Garden Centres is investing £2.2m in the business and creating new jobs.  It is expanding its retail space by 1,500 square metres to 5,300 square metres, with work due for completion in autumn 2013. Turnover is expected to increase to £6.5m as a result of the expansion.  90 employees.

£25m Gloucester housing development means potential new jobs

Linden Homes has started work on a £25m development in Gloucester, including 254 new homes, a cafe, office space and a restaurant.  The development will transform 2.4 hectares of land previously occupied by Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology, and could create employment opportunities.

Glasgow office development means new jobs

Construction company Morgan Sindall has secured a contract to build a £24m office facility in Glasgow, as part of the Clyde Gateway regeneration project.  The project will create 120,000 square feet of office accommodation spread across a new five-storey building.  The contract has the potential to create employment opportunities. Turnover £2.2bn, 6,740 employees.

Extension to Devon industrial park means 150 potential new jobs

Gladman has completed £2m of infrastructure works in preparation for businesses to move into a nine-acre extension to Cullompton Business Park in Devon. Gladman has invested heavily into the project, which will provide space for an estimated 150 workers. The park will meet demand for new build development from companies requiring expansion space.

ERDF Convergence Programme funding brings jobs to Cornwall

Western Power Distribution is investing 6.1m to redevelop its site at Tolvaddon, Cornwall, with a new office, engineering and storage facility. It has secured 2.2m funding for the project from the ERDF Convergence Programme. The new facility will secure 9 existing jobs and create a further nine jobs by 2015. Turnover 323.3m, 1,500 employees.

Redevelopment of Newcastle Central Station means potential new jobs

East Coast and Network Rail are investing £8m to upgrade Newcastle Central Station, with funding provided by the Department for Transport.  The improvements, designed by Ryder Architecture, include a glazed pedestrianised area, new retail space, and a new information centre. The development could create jobs. Turnover £665.8m, 2,780 employees.

Merger with Cirrusstratus creates 15 jobs

Surrey-based WorkPlaceLive and Cirrus Stratus, who offer desktop services across a number of industries, have joined forces under the name WorkPlaceLive. Their merger has created 15 jobs.  The firm employ a combined 18 workers and hope to hire a further 15 by 2015.

New Hull Branch brings new jobs in Morrells Woodfinishes

Manufacturer Morrells Woodfinishes which has its head office in Manchester is opening a new branch in Hull as a move to grow its business into a bigger market.  The company are expected a £1m turnover in the first year in Hull and will employ 4 members of staff.

New London headquarters for Google with new leisure premises creates jobs

BAM Construct is preferred bidder for a 300m contract to build new headquarters in London for internet company Google.  A three-year construction programme to deliver 1m sq. ft. of offices will start in October 2013, potentially creating employment opportunities.  The offices will comprise five multi-storey buildings, with office space above shops, cafes and restaurants.

Business expansion in Hull creates 100 jobs

AA Global, which provides translation and interpreting services, is expanding its operations in Hull, one year after opening its office in the city.  It is creating 100 new roles, mainly for freelance translators and interpreters, but some admin and business development roles will be available. 

25 new jobs from converting pub into convenience store in Oakham

Everards Brewery is planning to convert The Horseshoe pub in Oakham, Leicestershire, into a convenience store. The pub is no longer viable because of falling trade.  The plan will create up to 25 jobs. Turnover £28.2m, 114 employees.

Dundee development means 40 jobs expected

Scottish Enterprise is part-funding District 10, a £1.7m development designed to support the creative industries sector in Dundee.  The development is expected to create 40 jobs and generate £10m for the local economy over 10 years. Funding has also been provided by European Regional Development Fund, Matthew Trust and the Scottish government.

50 new jobs as Greenock arts centre opened

The Greenock Arts Guild has created 50 new jobs at The Beacon Arts Centre in Inverclyde and further jobs are expected.  The £10m centre opened in January 2013, replacing the Greenock Arts Guild Theatre.

Barclays recruiting 2,000 and launching Bridges Into Work programme

Barclays has launched Bridges Into Work, in partnership with National Apprenticeship Service, Tomorrows People and The Princes Trust. The programme aims to find work with SMEs for 10,000 young people.  Barclays is also doubling the number of apprentices it is recruiting into its own workforce to 2,000.

London-based Smart Hospitality secures £40m EventCity contract bringing potential new jobs

London-based Smart Hospitality has been awarded a 10-year catering contract with Peel Group.  The contract, worth £2.5m in the first year and £40m over the full term, is to provide catering services for Peels EventCity exhibition space in Manchester. The contract could create employment opportunities.

Lancashire solicitors launches corporate division with 140 new jobs

Lancashire-based Asons Solicitors has taken an additional 3,000sq ft. of space at its Bolton office, in preparation for the launch of a corporate division in May 2013.  Asons is recruiting for 140 staff in litigation and corporate services. It has made a strong start to 2013, with profitability 16% ahead of forecast. 64 employees.

Nursery products firm Mamas & Papas is to open new stores in the UK and overseas this year.

Burnley Bridge Business Park development attracts international companies

Eshton, the Leeds-based developer, has launched its £50m Burnley Bridge Business Park development in Lancashire.  The 70-acre business park is expected to play a key role in the regeneration of the area and create up to 1,400 jobs.  Several international companies have expressed an interest in occupying the site.

Construction completed in Shropshire care home scheme with 100 new jobs

Construction has been completed on a Coverage Care Services's new £6.9m care home in Oswestry that will employ more than 100 people and support economic regeneration in the market town. 

Golf retailer opening 30 stores with 250 new jobs

Specialist golf retailer American Golf recorded a 3% increase in sales to 133m in the year to 31 January 2013.  It plans to open 30 new stores over the three years to 2016, including new ladies stores, creating 250 new jobs. Sales reached record levels, helped by Europe winning the Ryder Cup against the US.

Bradford office opened by motor insurance company with 17 jobs created

Newly launched motor insurance company Pegasus is creating 17 jobs. The Bradford business recently launched after securing City Centre Growth Zone funding, part of a £35m initiative funded by Bradford Council and the Government Regional Growth Fund.

New Marry Hill store brings 22 new jobs

SOFA retailer DFS plans to open a store at Merry Hill during March 2013 bringing with it 22 new jobs.  The company has a turnover of £638.4m and employs 2680 staff.

Incinerator planned for Haresfield, Gloucestershire with new jobs

Urbaser and Balfour Beatty are planning to build a 500m waste burner at Javelin Park, near Haresfield, Gloucestershire, in a joint venture.  Planning officers have recommended approval of the plans, which could create employment opportunities.

29 new jobs in Arcelor Mittal Auto Processing factory expansion

Arcelor Mittal Auto Processing, a West Midland steel firm that makes car parts, is creating 29 new jobs. The company, which currently employs 75 people, is extending its factory and installing new laser welding machines.

New 80 bed care home brings 135 new jobs to Gloucester

Markey Developments is planning to build an 80-bed care home for older people in Gloucester, creating 135 jobs. The 3,000 sq. m development will also provide 13 assisted-living apartments and three shops and will cater for the needs of people with dementia. Williamson Associates Limited is the architect for the project.

New Cardiff and Vale College college campus brings potential new jobs

Rightacres Property is to develop a £45m campus for Cardiff and Vale College. Work on the project, which is supported by a £20m Welsh government grant, will start in summer 2013 with completion expected in summer 2015. The contract could create employment opportunities. Turnover £15.3m.

Bookmaker Betfred is to launch its first TV Channel; initially the channel will be broadcast in Betfreds 1,365 high street outlets.  Head of marketing at Betfred.com Hilary Large has also left the company.
Management Moves: New group FD appointed by Bromford Industries

Birmingham-based aerospace supply group Bromford Industries has appointed a David Mintrim as new Group Finance Director.  The company has a turnover of £20.3m and employs 310 members of staff.

Management Moves: Sales teams strengthened as new managers appointed by Inverarity Morton

Drinks wholesaler Inverarity Morton is strengthening its sales teams with the appointment of Jane Campbell as area sales manager for the Central Belt of Scotland and Jamie Grey as business development manager for Bath and Bristol. The £50m turnover company was created in 2011 when William Morton took over wine merchant Inverarity Vaults.

Venture Capita: £10m fundraising - Further investment from Enterprise Ventures

Enterprise Ventures has increased its investment in washing machine manufacturer Xeros as part of a £10m fundraising.  The venture capital firm first invested in Xeros in 2009 when it led a £920,000 fundraising round and was among the backers in the latest funding round.

Venture Capita: £3m funding package for Solihull animal bedding supplier Areden Wood Shavings,

Solihull animal bedding supplier Areden Wood Shavings, has successfully expanded after securing a £2.85m funding package from TSB Commercial Banking.  The funding has been used build a new garage workshop to carry out maintenance on plant and machinery
