Automated Technology Group (ATG) has launched the Autotech Academy at its headquarters in Silsoe, Bedfordshire and has recruited 21 engineering apprentices to bridge the skills gap in engineering. ATG has 300 employees and group turnover of £30m.
Recruits who will be trained to meet demand from clients in the automotive, logistics, airports, food & beverage, metals, utilities, oil & gas, mining & aggregates and power generation industries.
Research indicates that industry needs to recruit and train 82,000 engineers, scientists and technicians across the UK by 2016, and 363,000 of the current technical workforce is qualified below world class standards and needs to be skilled up.
The Autotech Academy will provide structured training to fast-track both school leavers and graduates.
